Belarus is scheduled to hold its Presidential election on this day. The current President, Alexander Lukashenko, is seeking his seventh term. Mr. Lukashenko is a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the last election five years ago, his opponent fled the country after reportedly winning. The only parties that are currently permitted to operate are those that support Mr. Lukashenko’s candidacy.
